SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER TOUR
AND CSI SCENARIO

Science & Technology Center programs begin with an informational SCAVENGER HUNT lasting about 45 minutes.  The remainder of the time is self guided viewing or interacting with exhibits.  Total duration is typically one to two hours. This is often combined with CHEM MYSTERY, our popular CSI scenario. See the STC page for more information on this and other exhibit offerings.
$105 (up to 20 students and 5 chaperones)

MICRONAUTS: Grades K - 3

This hands-on program brings the Challenger space mission experience to  younger children who are still learning the basics of reading.
Following a briefing from the Commander, the young astronauts will board the modular  Space Transport Vehicle Destiny. Destiny's mission is to hitch a ride with the shuttle to the International Space Station. From inside Destiny, the astronauts will observe the shuttle launch by video sent from Mission Control in Houston.
After traveling 230 miles above the Earth's surface, the astronauts will board the Space Station Science Module to complete critical scientific experiments. Working in teams of two, they will examine insects, test rocks for radioactivity, assemble a solar array, identify harmful organisms, perform measurement calculations, build a satellite, work with a microscope, observe the Solar System, and more in order to learn more about the planet Earth and about living in Space.
After the experiments are completed and with results in hand, the crew will board Destiny from which they will observe their return to Earth where they will meet for a mission debriefing.

The Micronaut Program meets the National Standards Science Correlation Matrix for Grades K - 4.

$200 per 20 students for a 1 hr. session. $75 per additional EVA activity if you choose to do more than one.

ROCKETRY

Air Rockets:
This is an introductory level rocketry program teaching the students the basics of rocket engineering.  Students will construct paper rockets and will be divided into two groups to participate in a launch competition.
Pre-K-3rd Grade $100 (20 students) 1 hr. session

New this year:

 MIRRORDOME PLANETARIUM

Introduce children  to the wonderful world of astronomy in our 12 ft. high, 20 ft. diameter inflatable planetarium!

For the younger set, we offer one hour  programs of which about one-half is spent in the planetarium. The remaining time includes  hands-on and interactive  activities:

  • OUR SOLAR SYSTEM - Take a tour of the planets!
  • STELLARIUM - View the night sky! Learn about the constellations, and hear stories from ancient times that truly bring them to life.
  • EARTH'S WILD RIDE! - Join a family viewing the Earth from the moon in the year 2081 during a solar eclipse. In this 3-D animated film, as a grandfather tells his grandchildren about how Earth was and is like, we see roaring dinosaurs, crashing asteroids, and ice age mammoths. We travel through canyons of raging rivers, over an erupting volcano, and through a thunder and lightning storm. Children learn about eclipses, Earth's water cycle, and the differences between Earth and Moon.
  • IT'S ABOUT TIME - Ride a space elevator from the Earth's surface to orbit, and see the universe through a "time telescope" that views celestial objects in "real time."
  • CELLESTIA - Travel to distant points in our Solar System and beyond.
  • RING WORLD - Learn about the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn and its moon, Titan!

Pre-K-3rd Grade $150 (20 students) 1 hr. session
